Russia Launches Massive Missile and Drone Assault on Kyiv, 23 Killed
There has been a huge attack from Russian airstrikes which has caused death to over 23 people (15 in the city and eight in the neighboring areas) while injuring over 100 others. The Ukrainian Air Force stated that they had not been able to shoot down any of the 23 ballistic missiles which were fired by Russia since there was a “serious shortage” of interceptor missiles despite shooting down 37 cruise missiles and 326 drones out of the total 419 missiles which were fired. The attacks have caused huge destruction as three apartment buildings collapsed partially. This is the second time within the last one week when Kyiv has been attacked by Russia, with Thursday’s attack causing death to over 30 people. Following the Ukrainian long-range attacks with drones on Russia’s energy infrastructure, including the oil refinery in Russia, which is over 2,400 kilometers away, the Russians say that they are attacking military and energy targets. Before attending the NATO Summit in Turkey, where he is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed for the deployment of Patriot air defense systems by his Western allies.
